Winning ways

On a very wet Saturday our L1s travelled south to play the University of Bristol. Newent started strongly and dictated the play and winning an early short corner. Whilst the first strike from Jenny Price was saved by the keeper it was Catherine 'Beefy' Bridgens who found the roof of the net with an excellent follow up. From a break in the play, the university students managed to find a gap and equal the score. Despite this goal the L1s regained the upper hand making numerous breaks into the Bristol circle. Saska Ingham managed to keep her cool with a brave one on one with the keeper which saw Newent's 2nd goal find the back of the net and the goal scorer on the floor!
In the second half Newent continued to dominate play. Showing great composure on the ball, Newent kept control of the play and patiently waited for gaps to appear in the students' defence. One such gap was found on the post from Cheryl Vinson through a well worked short corner. Newent remained in control for the rest of the game, coming close to extending the lead on many occasions. Not long before the final whistle a short corner saw player of the match, Polly Griffiths, play a ball into the feet of the keeper with Jenny Price neatly placing it in the goal.
