Howardians L1 v Newent L1

Our L1s travelled over the border for their final pre-season match. Howardians, a division higher than Newent L1s, starting strongly playing the ball into the danger areas but the Newent defence help firm with some close marking and some fine saves from goalkeeper Cleggy. Newent soon settled into the game and began pressing the Howardian's defence, earning a short corner. A cleanly executed short corner saw Kat find a space on the Howardian's post to take the lead, 0-1. The first half continued to be an end to end game with both teams coming close.

Howardian's began the second half very strongly and were soon rewarded with a goal from a short corner. They continued to apply the pressure forcing Newent into their own half for a long period of time. Newent worked incredibly hard to hold off the attacks and were unlucky when Howardians got their 2nd goal. The game continued to be fast paced with both teams working hard to keep possession of the play.
10 mins to go, Bubby took a rebound from the keeper to make it 2-2. Howardians however were playing for the win and pressed Newent hard, managing to get the winning goal in the dying minutes of the game.
Player of the match goes to Julie Merrell who was fiercely strong in defence today! Well done everyone, onwards to the first league game next Saturday. Best wishes to Clare who had a nasty knee injury, we hope you heal quickly. x
