Bromsgrove 1sts v Newent 1sts

Our L1s travelled to Bromsgrove for a midday start in the September sunshine. Newent 1s started strongly, attacking the Bromsgrove defence from the start. It wasn't long before their first goal came from the Newent Captain, Bubby, putting it through the keeper's legs. Bromsgrove fought back, putting pressure on the Newent defence eventually equalising, 1-1 before half time.
Bromsgrove started the second half with the upper hand, dominating play and taking the lead soon into the half, 2-1. Newent regained their structure and composure with Sarah Medcalf bringing the score to 2-2 through a calmly executed goal, lifting the ball over the keeper. With this equaliser Newent showed their experience and continued to put the home team under pressure. 10 mins from the end of the match Clare Oliver put the L1s back into the lead once more with a well placed goal. Newent L1s held onto the lead to win a high intensity pre-season match.
Player of the match went to Sarah Medcalf for her constant pressure on the Bromsgrove defence, earning a well deserved goal by doing so.

Next week Newent L1s head over the border into Wales to take on Howardians.
