10 December 2011
M1 4 v Weston 3
Newent had to battle hard to take all three points away from home. The task was made especially difficult after they went behind in the opening few minutes. Newent upped their game, quickly and they were able to create enough pressure to force a penalty stroke, which was coolly converted by skipper, Steve Mason.
Despite dominating the possession, they were caught out again and went behind as Weston capitalised on some sloppy passing. Again Newent responded by converting two successive short corners finished by Ben Spilsbury, and then Dave Sutcliffe to give Newent a 3-2 advantage at the half.
The second half went without a goal for twenty five minutes, thanks largely to goal keeper and man of the match Steve Bristol, who pulled off some fine saves to keep Weston at bay.
The deadlock was finally broke however as the home side found a way through to tie the game. Newent saved the best until last, however and put some fine passing together, with Ben Spilsbury adding his second to round of a great team goal and give Newent the late victory..
M2 5 v Lydney A 2
A strong Newent second string were able to dominate this local derby against Lydney. Newent we're positive from the start and a series of short corners were won, with Pete Pritchard converting for the lead. Goals followed at regular intervals, Pritchard grabbed 2 more to complete another hattrick, and one each from Eti Stephens and Ryan Clack secured the deserved win.
M3 2 v Hereford B 2
Newent 3rds put on a display to make the club proud, in a match that ended in a 2v2 draw. Newent started the game with a bare 11 away to Hereford who had previously taken maximum points at home. It looked as hereford were going to take all points again as they ended the 1st half 2 nil up. However newent had other plans. Newent played with passion and never gave up. Goals from paul sheen, pete harris and a magical display from man of the match paul ethers gave newent a well earned 2v2 draw.
Ladies
